Police said on Wednesday that two hardcore Naxals with a collective bounty of Rs 1.3 lakh were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. The Attorney General of the Inspector General Police Department in Bastar range said the gunfight took place in the forests of the village of Kilam-Bargum on the border of Kondagaon and Narayanpur districts on Tuesday night.
He said. So far, the bodies of two naxalites along with an AK-47 rifle along with other weapons and explosives have been recovered from the site, he said, adding that search operations are underway in the area.
The Naxals killed were identified as Haldar, a member of the terrible Maoist commander, Maoist East Bastar, while Reme, a member of the area committee, was identified as Haldar, the official said. He said the rewards for Haldar and Rame were Rs 8 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively. Through the latest action, 140 Naxals have been shot and killed in separate encounters in the state so far this year. Among them, 123 were eliminated in the Bastar partitions in seven regions, including Narayanpur and Kondagaon.
