In most parts of Telangana, mercury dropped below 40°C; heavy rain alerts held in 11 areas on May 16

Most of Telangana’s highest temperatures fell on Wednesday (May 14, 2025), with most mercury in 33 regions of the state below 40°C. According to the Telangana National Development Program Association (TGDP), only five regions have temperatures above 40°C, and Nidamanoor in Nalgonda appears in its hottest form at 41.1°C.

In contrast, Mulugu recorded a relatively mild 35.7°C, while Hyderabad and its adjacent Medchal Malkajgiri recorded a 39.4°C. The Rangareddy area is slightly warm at 39.5°C. It is reported that Hyderabad and its surrounding areas are followed by clear skies and sunshine in the early morning.

Heavy rain alert in 11 areas

Over the past few days, rain has been scattered throughout Telangana, helping to lower the temperature during the day, and weather conditions suggest the trend may continue. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a massive rain warning in 11 areas on Friday (May 16, 2025) warning of thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and storms.

Areas that may be affected include Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Thunderstorm alarm

Meanwhile a thunderstorm alert has been issued in isolated parts of Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, and Medchal Malkajgiri, Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda and Suryapet regions.

For Hyderabad, cloudy skies are usually expected for the next 24 hours, with rainy to moderate rain or thunder likely accompanied by strong winds. The city’s highest and lowest temperatures are expected to hover around 34°C and 21°C, respectively.
