Congress pays NM Vijayan's debt

Congress leaders decided to resolve issues related to the debt of late party worker NM Vijayan.
After Vijayan's family reportedly refused to meet with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday (May 4), they told the media that all the party leaders who had provided them with support earlier were in addition to the release of Rs 1 million.
Vijayan and his son Jijesh died last December after alleged suicide attempts. Vijayan reportedly incurred debt after a fundraising plan by the party. As the treasurer of the Wayanad Regional Congress Committee (DCC), he was allegedly forced to pay attention to the demands of some party leaders in the region and became part of the alleged work scam.
Vijayan is reportedly in debt of more than Rs 2.5 crore and the family claims they have raised questions with senior Congress leaders, but to no avail.
Wayanad DCC chairman ND Appachan, one of the defendants in the case, said on Sunday that the party would settle some debts, especially those that violate household property.
The Kerala Congress Committee appointed a four-person team led by senior leaders Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, TN Prathapan, Sunny Joseph and K. Jayanth to deal with the issue.
