Tariff Bank: US President Trump says India will “realize the tariffs” | World News

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that India will “substantially” reduce tariffs on U.S. goods. Trump’s statement was published in the White House that India charges 100% tariffs on agricultural commodities and the United States will launch countermeasures. Trump has set a deadline for April 2 to reduce tariffs or face a counterattack.

Washington plans to impose reciprocity tariffs on several countries, including India and Europe. “If you look at EU cars, the EU has lowered tariffs to two percent, and I think I heard that I was going to give up tariffs a lot in India not too long ago.”

The U.S. president further stated that many countries will give up tariffs because they have been “unfairly” in the U.S.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that many countries are involved in unfair trade practices. “We have 50% of the American Dairy Alliance (American Dairy) 50% (tariff) and Japan has 700% tariffs on U.S. rice,” Leavitt said. “India’s 100% tariffs on U.S. agricultural products, nearly 300% come from Canada’s U.S. butter and cheese…which makes it almost impossible for U.S. products to import them into these markets,” Leavitt said.

She further said it was time for reciprocity and historical changes. U.S. President Donald Trump will launch a new tariff plan on April 2, which he calls “Liberation Day.” “The president will announce a tariff plan that will remove unfair trade practices that have been evacuating our country for decades. He does so in the best interests of American workers,” Levitt said.
