222 e-ewaste collection center will be established in the AP

Vijayawada: Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana said the one-year Swachh Andhra-Swachh Diwas (Clean Andhra, Clean Day) plan will become a major success. The initiative, which started in January this year, has a specific theme in each of the 12 months. This month, the event will focus on thematic electronic checks.

Narayana held a conference call with the municipal commissioner and called for the successful implementation of the plan. He said that emphasising the importance of cleaning, such events will be held every third Saturday of the month. The minister will participate in Nellor’s cleaning program.

He said all e-waste from stores and households should be collected without loss. The program is to convert municipalities’ existing RRR (reduction, reuse and recycling) into a dedicated e-waste collection center and delegate its operations to women attracted from the self-help group under MEPMA.

He said that when explaining the topic of electronic inspection, he said that e-waste, such as cell phones, TVs and other devices must be collected from urban and rural households and stores. These will be taken to a newly designated e-waste collection center and reused with the help of a partner company. E-waste collected from homes and stores will be purchased from the public and paid to them.

The minister said 222 e-waste collection centers will operate statewide. Local women’s groups will also be involved. These centers will not only operate on Swachh Diwas, but will also facilitate the regular disposal of e-waste.

Narayana said the plan aims to make the entire country completely clean. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has participated in various regions in the past three months.

The Minister stressed the need for cooperation and urged the municipal commissioner and officials from all departments and the public to participate. They must coordinate with the local MLA.

Suresh Kumar, Chief Secretary of Municipal Administration, Swachh Andhra Md Anil Kumar Reddy, Chairman K Pattabhiram and Municipal Commissioner attended the meeting.
