India conducts advanced underwater naval mine testing

India has successfully tested an advanced underwater naval mine designed to enhance the navy's capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines.

This development has occurred as tensions in the Pahargam terrorist attacks in India and Pakistan have increased.

The Ministry of Defense said on Monday (May 5, 2025): “The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully fought (reduced) the fight against locally designed and developed multiple mines (MIGMs).

It said the system is an advanced underwater naval mine developed by the Naval Science and Technology Laboratory Visakhapatnam in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories.

MIGM aims to enhance the Indian Navy's capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines. Bharat Dynamics Limited, Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad is the production partner of the system.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Indian Navy and the industry, the system will further enhance the Indian Navy's undersea warfare capabilities.
