India has moved the water through the Baglihar dam on the Chenab river and plans to take similar measures on the Kishanganga dam on the Jhelum River, a source said.

Sources familiar with the matter said that these hydropower dams – Bagrihar of Ramba of Jamu and Kishanganga of North Kashmir – provided India with the ability to regulate the time of water issuance.

India's decision to suspend the treaty for decades was to kill 26 people, mainly tourists, in terrorist attacks in Jamu and Pahalgam in Kashmir.

Since 1960, the Indus Water Treaty, facilitated by the World Bank, has ruled the use of the Indus and its tributaries between India and Pakistan.

The Bagrihar Dam has been a long-standing dispute between two neighbors, and Pakistan has sought World Bank arbitration in the past.

The Kishangaga Dam faces legal and diplomatic scrutiny, especially regarding its impact on Neelum River, a tributary of Jhelum.
