India imposes ban on Pakistan imports

New Delhi: In the wake of the April 22 Pahargam terrorist attack, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated, with the coalition government announcing an immediate ban on imports and transits of all goods originating from or passing through Pakistan. The State Administration of Foreign Affairs (DGFT) issued a notice on May 2, stating that the ban is for the benefit of national security and public policy.
The DGFT's notice clearly states: “Whether free import is freely allowed or otherwise permitted, it shall be in effect immediately until further order.” Any exception to the ban will require prior approval from the Government of India.

The trade embargo comes after the deadly attacks by Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians, including 25 Indian tourists and a local resident, were killed by terrorists.
