India is now the fourth largest exporter of marine products in the world

In 2024-25, India exported 1.685 million tons of marine products from 1051 LMT in 2014-25. Supported by advances in aquaculture practices, better cold chain infrastructure and compliance with international quality norms, the country’s marine exports grew from US$5.4 billion in fiscal 2015 to US$7.2 billion in 2024-25.
“This expansion underscores the growing global demand for Indian marine products and the efforts of exporters to leverage high-value markets,” an official said. One official added that this diversification of export destinations mitigates market risks and provides opportunities for long-term growth.
India’s ranking 8th in marine product exports in 2014-15, indicating its growing competitiveness and credibility in the global market.
“In the past decade, India’s ocean exports have shown a strong growth trajectory in terms of quantity and value, positioning the country as a key player in the global seafood trade,” the official said.
During this period, India’s annual growth rate was 3.15%, with a global average of more than 2.7%, further consolidating its growth in the international seafood arena.
