U.N. Supreme Leader welcomes understanding between India, Pak stops fire and military operations

The top UN leaders welcomed the understanding between India and Pakistan that halted all shooting and military operations, calling it a “meaningful” and “positive step” to end the current hostilities and alleviate tensions. Philemon Yang, president of the 79th session of the General Assembly, wrote in an article on X that he welcomed the development, saying: “This is a meaningful step towards downgrade and reflects the commitment of the two countries to regional peace and stability.” Young urged continued diplomatic efforts and dialogue to resolve differences and achieve lasting peace and stability in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the move as a “positive step” to end the current hostilities and ease tensions after India announced on Saturday’s “understanding of shutdowns and military operations.”
Tensions between India and Pakistan surged last week after Indian armed forces attacked Indian armed forces in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) in response to Pahargam terrorist attacks.
