In the early hours of Monday, the loud explosion shocked residents of the model town of Jalandhar, Punjab. The explosion occurred outside the residence of senior BJP leader and former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia.

It was around 1 a.m. when the noise echoed in the area. Kalia, who was asleep at the time, didn’t immediately realize what was going on.

“There was an explosion around 1 a.m….I was sleeping and I thought it was the sound of thunder… Later I learned that an explosion had occurred… After that, I sent the gunman to the police station…CCTV is investigating; forensic experts also appeared here.

Shortly after the incident, the police team arrived at the scene with forensic experts. The area was locked down and investigators began checking for possible signs of debris and explosive devices.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur personally visited the site to assess the situation.

“About 1 a.m., we got information about the explosion here, and after that we arrived at the scene and started investigating. The forensic team is investigating the matter…We are also monitoring CCTV… The forensic team is investigating whether it is a grenade attack or something…” Kaur said.
