Indigenous Tech Keys Sindoor Success: Former DRDO Chief
Nellol: Former DRDO Chairman G Satheesh Reddy praised the important role Aboriginal defense technology plays in the ongoing Sindoor operation, a high-tech conflict marked by precise strikes, air combat and heavy drone activities.
In a speech to Deccan Chronicle, Reddy said he was proud of the contributions of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), its scientists and the vibrant Indian defense industry.
“DRDO scientists are very proud that many of our indigenous systems are deployed effectively in this operation,” he said, highlighting the performance of missiles, drones, anti-number systems and air defense platforms made in India.
According to media reports, the cornerstone of India’s air defense strategy and medium-range ground-oriented air missiles and other media systems have achieved great success in the development of air threats.
“These technologies are developed with a vision of modern warfare, and they prove their effectiveness in real-time conflict,” Reddy stressed.
He pointed out that conflict is significantly different from traditional ground combat. “This war is powered by technology – mainly in the air. It’s about missiles, drones, air defense systems and aircraft. This is the first time, and on this scale, many Indigenous systems are used to synergize.”
Among the outstanding performers is the Brahmin supersonic cruise missile developed by India and Russia, which Reddy calls “very accurate, reliable weapon.”
The central government realized its importance and launched a new facility in Lucknow dedicated to producing 150 Brahmos missiles per year.
Another major success story is the anti-UAV system in India, developed through close collaboration between DRDO and domestic industry. “Use these systems to neutralize hundreds of drones,” he said.
Satheesh Reddy stressed that India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, from mature players to agile startups, has reached a certain level of maturity and can contribute quickly to national security efforts.
“I congratulate startups and industries that have been constantly innovating and preparing to serve. Their payloads, radars and drone systems have played a crucial role in this operation.”
Reddy praised the leadership of the Armed Forces and the Central Government, “Timely decisions and precise execution have made a difference. During development, trials and practice, the Armed Forces have been trained in these systems – now ready.”
