The oldest government engineering college in Odisha (now a university) has imposed different degrees of punishment on 100 students with the approval of the vice president. Educators say this type of mass disciplinary action is a rare event in the history of higher education.

Students at Burla Veer Surendra Sai University (VSSUT) fined the IndiScipline behavior between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000, the most severe fine was the reduction of the theoretical subjects for the current semester by one grade. In some cases, it is recommended to classify the pass level into the failure level.

Although some first-year students also face action, most of the three-year students identified by disruptive behavior. Some students in these groups were punished lightly, including issuing warning memorandums. They were also directed to engage in social work under the supervision of university authorities.

No student office

Additionally, the punished student is prohibited from participating in the nomination for any student office or leadership position in the sports team. They are also prohibited from receiving medals, certificates or prizes related to academics and extracurricular activities.

Many of these students’ parents are asked to submit an affidavit in person, promising that their wards will not engage in any further disciplinary actions for the rest of the college, but may result in what evictions or other disciplinary actions.

VSSUT is one of the prestigious universities in eastern India, and his students have received an impressive history of relocation among leading organizations and institutions across the country.
