A 28-year-old man died and another 16 injured after the body of an elderly woman was taken to the body of an elderly woman while attending a parade in the village of Alathudaiyanpatti in Uppiliapuram police station on Friday.
Police identified the deceased as G. Sridhar of Alathudaiyanpatti. The injured were taken to several hospitals in Tiruchi and Serail.
The tragedy happened when Sridhar bursts into cookies during the funeral parade. The sparks fall on the cookies and place them in a sack, causing an explosion. Sridar, who maintained the burn, was declared dead at the government hospital in Serarier. Uppiliapuram police are investigating.
