INL leader says

The League of Indian States (INL) has criticized the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for opposing the WAQF (Amendment) bill, questioning its credibility in light of alleged attempts to usurp WAQF property in Taliparamba.

INL Governor Kassim Irikkur spoke in the media on Thursday (April 17, 2025) for hypocrisy, saying the party has no moral authority to protest the amendment while allegedly continuing its efforts to seize WAQF land.

Mr. Irikkur highlighted the history of the Cannanore Regional Muslim Education Association (CDMEA), recalling the founding of V. Khalid in 1964 and in 1967 in Taliparamba in Taliparamba to address the educational backwardness of Muslims in North Malabar. He said the college was originally run by non-political community leaders, but over time, the IUML was under control and gradually filled out branches of the college’s management committee.

He claims that the 22 acres originally owned and rented by the taxable Jamaican mosque and for 99 years were actually funded by the CDMEA, controlled by IUML. “After public pressure, the lease amount has been increased from Rs 3,000 in 2004 to Rs 3 lakh,” he said.

Mr Irikkur further accused IUML of aggression against corruption and nepotism, citing Seethi Sahib High School violations. “The WAQF Board Audit Report shows that during the coalition leader’s tenure as Minister of Education, Rs 1.5 lakh was provided for the additional batch to ensure that one batch is provided for the school,” he claimed.

During a national debate on the WAQF Act, Mr Irikkur said the coalition was trying to control long-term leased WAQF land, adding that the Ministry of Home Affairs was designated as the Farook College and the Regional Muslim Alliance Association in the Munambam case.
