Intern IAS officials visit Vidyut Soudha for in-depth understanding of the state’s power sector

The highlight of this visit was a drill at the State Load Scheduling Center (SLDC), a hub for real-time grid operation and power utility load management. SLDC officials explained the facility’s role in monitoring grid stability, balancing supply and demand, scheduling power flows, and ensuring seamless power transmission across regions. They highlight AI-based demand forecasting models, advanced digital monitoring systems, and real-time data analytics for load forecasting and grid stability management.

Mr Chakradhar Babu explained all aspects of AP-GENCO and AP-TRANSCO, including thermal and Hydel power generation, transmission planning, grid operations, project implementation, system control and renewable energy integration sectors. He mentioned that measures were taken to make the power sector resilient under the leadership and guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and Special Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand.

Training staff were also briefed on the state’s power sector’s policy and regulatory framework, which covers tariff regulations, renewable energy policies, infrastructure investment strategies and public-private partnership models.
