Defense Minister Khawaja Asif

Pakistan’s defense minister claimed that this had nothing to do with the terrorist attack that killed 26 people.

On Tuesday afternoon, a terrorist attack near Pahalgam in Anatnag district of Kashmir claimed 26 lives, mainly tourists from other states. The victims included two foreigners, one from the UAE, the other from Nepal, and two locals. The attack was one of the deadliest attacks since the 2019 Pulwama strike.

In response to the devastating attack, Asif denied Pakistan’s connection while asserting that it was a reaction to the Indian government policies of states such as Nagaran, Manipur, Kashmir and Chhattisgarh. He claimed that the government is facing protests in these areas due to alleged exploitation.

“The central government of India faces protests in many states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Kashmir and Chhattisgarh. This is native because the government is exploiting many people. We do not support any form of terrorism and locals should not be targeted by terrorists, and we have no doubt about this.”

On the other hand, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern about the attack, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and hoped to recover quickly. “We are concerned about the lives of tourists who died in an attack in the Anatnag area. We pay tribute to the recent years of the deceased and hope for a quick recovery of the injuries,” the office said in a statement.

The security forces of Jamu and Kashmir’s security forces have been highly vigilant, and deployments have increased and strengthened security in vulnerable locations. Inspection stations have strengthened barbed wire barricades and vehicle inspections.

Top leaders pay tribute to the victims of the Pahargam terrorist attack. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Governor Manoj Sinha visited the control room of the Srinagar Police Department where the remains of the dead were kept there. They paid solemn respect to the victims, expressed their condolences and unity.
