Mangaluru: To promote a huge push in Kambala, a traditional Buffalo race along the coast of Karnataka, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Saturday that Kambala will compete in the state’s Dasala sporting event starting this year.
Speaking at Mooluru-Aduru Kambala on Saturday, Shivakumar said the government is committed to exposing Kambala International. “Kambala has been held in Bangalore. We will provide permanent encouragement for this folk movement,” he said.
Shivakumar praised the cultural and educational richness of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, saying it is home to several religious pilgrimage sites in the state and the largest number of medical and engineering colleges.
“To supplement this, we will soon propose a new policy to promote tourism in coastal areas,” he said, adding that he will visit the region again with the Tourism Minister to develop a development plan.
The event was attended by MLCS Ivan D’Souza, Manjunath Bhandary and others.
