Congress said a critical step in restoring constitutional principles. Welcomes SC’s interim decision on the WAQF Act

New Delhi: Congress welcomes the SC’s interim decision in the WAQF case that ensures the status quo of the WAQF property, including the WAQF for the user, until further orders, except that it is from the government’s assurance that non-Muslims are not appointed to the WAQF panel now.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi, among the chief lawyers who argued against the WAQF Act, said the court’s interim decision was an important step in restoring constitutional principles.

“We believe this is an important step towards restoring constitutional principles, constitutional morality and the rights and correctness of the system,” Singhvi said on the party’s news machine on Thursday after appearing in the case.
AICC Secretary-General KC Venugopal said the court’s observations have raised the focus of concerns caused by political parties at home and outside India.

Congressman Imran Pratapgarhi, a petitioner, said: “The Supreme Court has followed the final order and has blocked many of the anti-constitutional aspects of the bill.”
