Iran says negotiations with us are “constructive” and further negotiations will be held on April 19 | World News

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Iran and the United States will hold a second round of negotiations on April 19 as the two sides held “indirect” talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman on Saturday, in a “constructive” atmosphere.

The ministry said in a statement that two and a half hours of talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Steve Witkoff from the Middle East centered on the nuclear issue and sanctions relief in Tehran.

It added that the sides agreed to continue the talks next week, noting that the heads of the two delegations spoke for several minutes while leaving the negotiation site, with the presence of the Omanian Foreign Minister.

After the negotiations, Araghchi said in a speech to a reporter at Muscat that the first talks were “constructive and maintained an atmosphere of calm, very respectfulness”.

“There is no inappropriate language used, and both sides demonstrate their commitment to advancing negotiations until an agreement with mutual benefit is gained from an equal standpoint,” he added.

The minister revealed that the second round of talks was “planned at the same level next Saturday, but the venue may not be here (Muscat).

Aragic said the two sides had decided on the general framework needed to reach an agreement in the next round, noting that both sides were in favor of reaching an agreement as soon as possible.

He added that in the next round of talks: “We will try to get into the agenda of negotiations, and of course, this will be with the timeline,” he added. Hopefully, in the upcoming negotiations, both sides will be able to finalize the basis for launching the “real negotiations.”

The negotiations in Muscat came after U.S. President Donald Trump said in early March that he had sent a letter to Iranian leaders through the United Arab Emirates and proposed negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran later confirmed that it had received the letter and opened the door for indirect participation.
