Iranian port explosion: The death toll has reached 25 and 800 injured after the explosion at the port of Shahid Rajaee in Bandar Abbas, Iran on Saturday.
What happened to the Iranian port?
According to IANS, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that rescue teams were dispatched immediately after the explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port and all activities in the port were suspended. After the explosion, thick smoke was seen rising from the Shahid Rajaee port.
Tehran Fire Service spokesman Jalal Maleki said in a social conversation with the semi-official Fars newsletter that the fire that occurred after the explosion was “almost included”. He added that there are still flames, but describing them as “no worries”.
Causes of Iran’s port explosion
According to Xinhua News Agency, the official news agency IRNA said the exact cause of the explosion has not been determined. But Hossein Zafari, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Organization, told Fars that chemical materials in containers in Iran’s ports could have caused the explosion.
On the other hand, Iranian government spokesman Fatemeh Mohajerani warned against any “hasted speculation” about the cause of the explosion of Iran’s ports.
Iranian president’s reaction after the port explosion
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian posted on social media platform X, expressing deep regret and informing him that he had ordered an investigation into the port explosion.
He wrote: “With deep regret and sympathy for the victims of the Hormozgan Province incident, I issued an order to investigate the situation and causes of the incident.”
President Pezeshkian added: “The Interior Minister was sent to the area as a special representative to closely inspect the dimensions of the accident, conduct necessary coordination and resolve the injured situation.”
