The irregular water supply in March and April led to careful consideration at the monthly council meeting of the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) held in Hubballi on April 29, with members of the opposition and ruling party expressing concern.
BJP MP Chandrashekhar Managundi raised the question at zero, claiming that his ward is supplied with water once in the 8-10-day ward. Several members of the ruling party and opposition parties agreed to his agreement, even claiming that the frequency is 10 to 15 days in some places.
Responding to their allegations, municipal commissioner Rudresh Ghali said water supply was delayed by eight hours as power was turned off in March. The district’s minister held a meeting of officials for Wisdom, HDMC, Kuidfc and L&T before forming a technical committee. The committee’s report is awaiting.
He said Kuidfc officials were directed to develop an action plan to prevent power from damage to the water supply system.
Involved in the discussion, Mayor Ramanna Badiger pointed out that in three places, farmers refused to separate from their land to lay 24×7 water supply lines. They demand substantial compensation.
“The farmers were convinced to their land. Therefore, the work has been done. Now, work is only 50 meters away, and is expected to be completed by June 8,” he said.
The mayor directed the municipal commissioner to take measures to provide separate feeders for the water supply network to obtain power.
Controversy about veterinary
Despite the determination of the general institution to release the above-mentioned officials from municipal duties, the issue of allowing veterinarians to continue serving led to a heated discussion with BJP MP Thippanna Majjagi.
When BJP MP Shivu Menasinakai raised the threat of stray cattle in the CBD, health official Dr Sridhar Dandeppanavar clarified that while forming a team to address the issue, action was delayed due to opposition from local residents. Mr Dandepanaval then called the veterinary officer Dr. Kulkani for further information, which angered Thippanna Majjagi, who tried to know how the officers were asked to resume their duties when the Council decided to release him. He tried to know that it would convey information about the powers of the Council.
After intervening in the discussion, Commissioner Rudresh Ghali clarified that Dr. Kurkani was asked to resume his post due to the mayor’s permission, which further angered Mr. Majjagi. He tried to know what to do when the Council meeting was determined to reduce its responsibilities. He asked the commissioner to apologize.
Discussions with Mayor Ramanna Badiger ruled that measures would be taken to mitigate the duties of officials in accordance with Council resolutions.
The Council meeting considered the various issues listed in the agenda.
It adopted a resolution condemning the Pahargan terrorist attack and demanding action against terrorists.
