With the National Highway Administration of India (NHAI) expected to finalize the detailed project report (DPR) for highway ascents (17 km) on 17 km long. Palarivattom bypasses the junction with NHAI to ensure that the alignment of the two items crisscrossed at the junction does not conflict.

NHAI in March directed Bhopal-based consulting firms to prepare the DPR for the expressway for the DPR to consider the vertical and horizontal clearance of the Metro viaduct after considering the vertical and horizontal clearance of the existing four lanes at the Palarivattom bypass junction.

“The company is exploring the best alignment of six-lane highways on Palarivattom after considering the design of subway viaduct alignment. NHAI has forwarded the details submitted by the DPR consultant submitted by KMRL to the DPR consultant.”

Under NHAI’s tentative plan, a three-lane highway will be built on either side of the four-lane overpass in Palarivattom and on either side of the six-lane overpass in Vyttila and Kundannoor. The plan will be finalized according to the DPR. Currently, Paling is underway on both sides of the Palarivattom junction, part of the 11.20km viaduct for the Kakkanad expansion of the subway.

Sources at KMRL said they had handed over the general layout drawings of the 60-meter-long subway viaduct to NHAI, which will be constructed perpendicular to the NH bypass, which was built on the Palarivattom overpass.

“The span will be an open beam/truss structure that will hover 14 meters above the pavement. It will be built 5.50 meters above the existing overpass and the proposed highway, while the span’s pile cap will be located outside the right road (row) of the NHAI,” they said. In addition to these aspects, the Metro agencies also agreed to submit work plans such as spans and related structures at the Palarivattom junction, construction and erectile methods, as well as their designs, when appropriate.
