Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday (27 March 2025) rejected a privilege notice to union home minister Amit Shah, who cited a 1948 government press release to verify his statement that his statement was part of the administration of the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
Secretary-General of the Congress Jairam Ramesh has made a notice against Mr. Shah to Sonia Gandhi, head of the Congress.
Mr Dankhar said Mr Shaa agreed to verify his statement after some debates were made in Rajya Sabha on March 25, while answering the debate on the Disaster Management Act.
He said the minister cites a press statement issued by the Indian Government’s News Information Bureau, and on January 24, 1998, then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru announced the start of the PMNRF, which is managed by a committee composed of the President of the Indian National Assembly and certain others.
“I’ve looked through it carefully. I’ve found no violations,” Dankhar said.
