Massive protests throughout Bangladesh have erupted as people took to the streets to express their anger at Israel’s military operations in Gaza. The demonstrations were intended to condemn violence in Gaza and called for boycott of products and companies linked to Israel. But in some places, protests turned into violence, causing property damage and destroying daily life.

These protests were reportedly seen in various cities including Pogra, Silget, Bazar in Cox and Chittagong. Demonstrators targeted famous international brands such as Bata, KFC and Pizza Hut, saying the companies are linked to Israel. In Bogra, hundreds of students and locals travel through the city, holding slogans and placards marked “Stop Genocide in Gaza” and “Boycott Israel Products”.

The situation escalated when a group of protesters attacked a Bata showroom, threw bricks and smashed glass walls. The store staff quickly locked the door to protect themselves and avoid further damage. Police officials confirmed the incident but said no major or serious injury was caused.

The protests caused huge traffic jams when protesters blocked roads and crossed major urban areas. Many of them were students from the government Govt Azizul Haque College, parade under the banner of “Ordinary Student, Bogra” to show support for the Palestinians.

In Sylhet, the scenes are similar. A group of people rushed into the KFC exit in the Mimocket area, smashing soft drink bottles they thought were Israel’s engagement and forcing the restaurant to close. Police were quickly deployed to control the situation and prevent further chaos.

The protest leaders demanded strong action by the Bangladesh government and the United Nations against Israel. They also condemn the killing of innocent civilians, including women and children, in Gaza, and urged the global community to “represent humanity.”

The Bangladesh Interim Government, currently led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, condemned recent acts of violence. Meanwhile, the previously ruled Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, expressed concern about the wave of extremism associated with such events.
