‘Jab Oscar Mein Hoti Hai Toh …”

Paresh Rawal shares anecdotes about the chaos that caused after he was elected as two national awards in the early 1990s, but ended up with one of them. He won Sir’s Best Supporting Actor Award, but won Mammootty’s Best Actor Award.

Paresh Rawal has made shocking allegations of the National Film Awards, saying dirty games and excessive lobbying can happen when choosing winners. The veteran actor revealed that he lost the award at the National Best Actor Awards and was even told that he won because he was not “lobbying” hard enough. Rawal shared anecdotes about the chaos that he caused after being elected as two national awards in the early 1990s, but ended up getting one of them.

Hera Pheri’s actor said in a conversation with Lallantop: “Main Mauritius Mein shoots kar raha tha 93-94 Mein, Subah 7:30-8 Baje Phone aaata aata hai mukesh bhatt ka said: Shooted in Mauritius in 1993 or 1994. At about 7:30 or August 8, I got a call from Mukesh Bhatt. Pareesh added that within a few minutes he received another call from Kalpana Lajmi claiming he won the National Award from Sardar. “Sardar ke liye? ketan mehta ki ki ke liye (sardar? ketan mehta movie?).

After hearing the news, the actor was ecstatic. But when he returned to Delhi he knew he would only receive a Mr. award, not Sardar. Confused with the news, the actor asked director Ketan Mehta, critic Khalid Mohamed, director Shyam Benegal and politician T. Subbarami Reddy why this happened. The actor said Reddy told him: “You guys didn’t lobby. We did the hard hall, the aggressive hall, and Mamotty got it.” At the 41st National Awards ceremony, Paresh Rawal won the Best Supporting Actor Awards from Sir and Woh Chokri, and Mammootty won Best Actor Awards from Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan.

Paresh Rawal shared his thoughts on the National Awards and concluded, “National Awards ki Main qadr karta hoon. National Awards I kabhi kabhi kabhi kya hota hai …Technical – Kisi ne bheji nahi thi film. Oscar Me Hoti Hai Lobby Toh Ye Toh Kya Hai (I respect the National Awards. But sometimes what happens is… because of technical reasons – like a movie that is not submitted correctly – chaos happened. People are indeed playing games. Lobbying did happen, and something very positive happened.
