Drone activity was observed for several hours in the Samba district of Chamu and the Jalandar district of Punjab on Monday (May 13, 2025).

But, the army said late at night, the situation was calm and controlled. “There are no enemy drones at the moment.”

Follow the May 12 India – Pakistan ceasefire update

The Army earlier said security forces were in contact with alleged drones in the Samba area.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first speech to the country and Narendra Modi’s first speech to the country happened several hours after the board meeting of Military Operations (DGMOS) in India and Pakistan.

The military has said there is no need to panic.

It said: “There are a handful of suspicious drones near Jamu and Kashmir’s Samba. They are engaged.”

Against the backdrop of this situation, several areas in Samba, Katua, Rajuri and Chamu witnessed power outages.

Sources said the lights were turned off in the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi and followed its tracks as a precaution.

The latest hostilities between India and Pakistan began in the northern regions of Kupwara and Balamula in the Kashmir Valley and then spread southward to the Rajuri, Ponshi, Aknor and Pagwar regions along the international borders of the Chamu region. Hosts affected five border areas – Balamura, Kupuwara, Pornchi, Rajuri and Chamu.

The latest round of cross-border shooting further undermined the ceasefire agreement reached in February 2021, which was largely considered invalid due to frequent violations of Pakistan along the 740-km Line of Control (LOC).

Meanwhile, a senior official in Jalandhar, Punjab Province said the armed forces were alleged to “surveillance drones.”

Deputy Commissioner (Jalandhar) Himanshu Aggarwal said: “I was told that the armed forces were landed by the armed forces around 9:20 PM near Mand Village. A team of experts is looking for debris.”

In a 10:45 pm message, he advised people not to be near any debris and immediately notify the nearest police station.

Agwal said it was also known that there has been no drone activity since 10 p.m.

As reported in some areas, Deputy Commissioner Jalandal urged residents to remain calm and not to explode firecrackers.

Earlier, he had said that lights were turned off in certain areas near Suranasi, which was a precautionary measure for drone sightings.

“We are verifying them. No [total] Power outages so far. Armed Forces officials confirmed that there was nothing to worry about. They have regular vigils as usual,” Mr. Aggarwal said in a 9:15 pm news.

Punjab has a 553-kilometer border with Pakistan.

India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to cease all shooting and military operations on land, air and oceans, effective immediately after four days of fierce cross-border drone and missile strikes, which put both countries on the brink of a total war.

Some areas in Amritsar and Hoshiarpur areas of Punjab Province have also taken measures to prevent power outages.

Sources said Amritsar-bound Indigo flew to Delhi after the power outage was implemented.

They said that due to the preventive power outage, the Amritsar airport was closed and he had to return.
