Janawada Lake Rephuefenation offers new life rentals for Bidar Fishermen

Under part of the mission Amrit Sarovar Program (MGNREGA) of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the dry Janawada Lake in the Vidal District of Karnataka has been restored, which revitalized an important ecosystem, thereby enhancing the livelihoods of local fishermen who have been supported by a large number of farming farming farming for farming farming.

From November 2022 to April 2023, the rejuvenation of the 57-acre Janawada Lake cost Rs 5 lakh. Lake Janawada, which was exhausted a few years ago, was reborn in the past two monsoon seasons.

Sagar Association secretary Kishan Singh said they have raised more than 400,000 finger fish. Fish harvesting plans are conducted in a quarterly cycle mode (once every three months) for several days. Mr Singh stressed the need to monitor the site to prevent littering to ensure the sustainability of fishing habits and lake environment.

The lake’s tranquil environment and picturesque surroundings attract local tourists and tourists from nearby villages.

“The lake’s transformation into a picnic spot is due to its natural beauty and accessibility,” said Girish Badole, CEO of Bidar Zilla Panchayat.

Janamma, deputy director of the Fisheries Department of Vidal, said the revival of Janawada Lake was occupied in 2022 under Amrit Sarovar, with its ambitious goal to build or restore ponds and lakes. Janawada Lake is one of 91 lakes under the Amrit Sarovar program in Bidar District.

The lake has been leased to the Sagar Fish Raising Association. The official added that over the past two years, they have harvested about 10 fish.
