Workers led by Jharkhand department head Babulal Marandi held a protest in the state capital Ranchi on Thursday (17 April 2025) calling on the resignation of the Minister of Minority Affairs Hafizul Hasan, Hafizul Hasan, whose remarks on the constitution were held.
Mr Hassan, who controversially suspicious of “constitutional statistics” remarks on April 14, later claimed that his comments were misunderstood by the media and asserted that Islamists and the Constitution were equally important to him.
BJP workers led by Mr. Marandi took a copy of the Constitution and evacuated their “Aakrosh Pradarshan” rally from the grounds of the Zilla school, opposing the JMM-led government and ministers.
BJP State Work Chairman Ravindra Rai claimed that community forces were timid under the leadership of the Hemant Soren government.
Mr Lai asserted: “He should be deported by the government. The country will only run under the constitution of Dr. BR Ambedkar, which will be supreme.”
Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash said Chief Minister Hemant Soren must seek the resignation of the Minority Affairs Minister immediately.
The BJP march ended in Raj Bhawan, and a delegation of political parties led by Mr. Marandi handed over the memorandum to Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
“We met the governor and asked him to direct the Chief Minister to insult the Constitution for violation of the dignity of the Constitution, to regard it as secondary and prioritize Sharia over the Constitution, to give it priority to Sharia law, not the Constitution,” Marandi told reporters other than Raj Bhawan.
He claimed that Jharkhand was witnessing a constitutional crisis sponsored by the state government.
“The minister who was sworn in under the Constitution is blatantly violating his dignity,” Marandi said.
