AP proposes a heat wave action plan

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has proposed an action plan for heat wave dealing, including giving people advice on how to protect themselves and seek medical relief if affected.

So far, no sunken deaths have been reported across the state. IMD observed that, with the earlier normal temperature increase above at 36ºC or 37ºC, the highest recorded temperatures so far increased to 43.7ºC in March at Atlur Mandal in the YSR region and at Narasaraapet Mandal in the Parnadu region.

Running for half a day – the school was instructed to observe the water bells every hour from 7.45 am to 12 noon. The same exercise has been informed to implement for those who are working from 6.30 am to 10:30 am and at evening meetings.

“The action plan for heat waves includes a set of SOPs provided to all departments. So far, the state has not reported any deaths related to Sunstroke,” said Ronanki Kurmanath, director of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Agency (APSDMA).

Authorities will also monitor climate conditions, launch early warning systems, build public awareness, communicate risks to the community, identify vulnerable populations, health risks specific to each group, develop effective strategies, build capacity and understand health care professionals in response to heat-related diseases.

Andhra Pradesh has established 2,387 automatic weather stations throughout the state to obtain hourly reports on temperature and relative humidity, and the possible Heatwave impact maps are used as guidance for taking preventive measures.

All stakeholder departments have had specific roles as part of the action plan.
