K Subramanian was removed from office as executive director of IMF in India

New Delhi: The official statement issued by the government has been terminated and the service of Krishna Village Subramanian as executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (India) has been terminated.

The announcement was issued earlier on Friday in accordance with an order dated April 30, 2025.

“The Cabinet’s Appointment Committee has approved the termination of the services of Dr. Krishnamusi Subelamania as Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (India), effective immediately,” the official order read by the Ministry of Personnel.

Subramanian was appointed to the IMF Postal in August 2022. Before he served as the 17th Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) to the Indian Government from 2018 to 2021.

Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered India's growth forecast for fiscal 2025-26 to 6.2% on April 22.

This reflects a more cautious outlook for global trade disruptions amid global trade disruptions posed by U.S. and domestic challenges. In the World Economic Outlook (WEO) report in April, it cuts out economic growth forecasts for nearly every economy.

Global institutions said in their annual publication that the growth outlook for India's economy is relatively stable at 6.2% in 2025 (Financial 2025-26).

The growth of India's economy is supported by private consumption, especially in rural areas, but the rate is 0.3 percentage points lower than the January 2025 WEO estimate, affected by trade tensions and global uncertainty.
