Harris will address Emerge America’s 20th anniversary party, which will recruit and train Democratic women to run for office, grew up in part of Harris’ campaign for San Francisco district attorney in the early 2000s.
Her speech came the day after Trump took office for 100 days. It is expected to be her most extensive public remarks since she left office in January after beating Trump in January and plans to criticize the Republican president for handling the economy, U.S. institutions and foreign policy.
Harris has barely mentioned Trump since Trump’s failure in November, but she has recently addressed the anxiety and confusion of many of her supporters since Trump took office.
“There is a contagious way of fear, and we see that without a doubt,” she said at the summit of Major Women’s Definition in early April.
“But courage is also contagious,” she added, urging the audience to speak out to Trump. The current moment highlights “the power of kindness, the power of sisters, the power of self-care.”
Trump followed Harris at a campaign rally on Tuesday, his 100th day of office. He sarcastically called her “the great frontier tsar” and “the great candidate” and repeated some of the applause he usually delivered during the campaign.
“I know nothing about her,” Trump said before Harris replaced Joe Biden on Democratic tickets last summer.
Harris has been looking for a path forward nationwide after the November election, and Republicans have won control of Congress. Although a high-profile group of Democrats seeking leadership roles within the party, the former vice president retains a unique influence and will reshape any future race she chooses to participate in.
Harris, a former state attorney general and a U.S. senator from California, did not discourage her from possible competition to replace limited term Governor Gavin Newsom, a potential contender for the president. And she hasn’t ruled out another White House run.
She continued to use the president, including Harris, the Democratic National Committee and the state Democratic Party to continue fundraising. According to federal records, the commission’s Harris Victory Foundation reported that as of the end of March, there were about $4.5 million.
In a recent fundraising email, Harris is outspoken about the need for Democrats to unify ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
She wrote in a recent email that Democrats need to “organize and block Trump’s agenda when electing Democrats everywhere.” “There has never been a big moment for a strong Democrat – willing to stand up and be willing to go with Donald Trump, Elon Musk and what they do to this country.”
The event will mark a variety of homecomings. Harris, who lives in Los Angeles, is from the San Francisco Bay area.
