Guwahati:

A team of 20 Indian soldiers ended a high-altitude adventure covering 146 kilometers of rough trails and steep gradients in northern West Bengal and Sikkim in 28 days.

A Defense Ministry spokesman said Wednesday (April 16, 2025) that the ARMEX-24 expedition from March 22 to April 14 includes the time it takes for a specially selected team members to adapt to conditions above 14,000 feet of average sea level.

“Apart from the adaptation period, the team carried out 18 days of unremitting movements over tough terrain, navigating steep gradients, unpredictable weather and rugged trails,” the spokesperson said.

He said the soldiers volunteered to join the expedition, which tested their physical endurance, mental toughness and the power of coordinating teamwork under extreme conditions.

A senior officer said the route spanned a sharp shift in altitude from subtropical jungle to altitude above heights. Soldiers demonstrate adaptability and determination in low-oxygen, high-stress environments.

“ARMEX-24 is more than an expedition, it reflects the perseverance, discipline and action-ready in the Indian army. These initiatives promote leadership, enhance friendly friendships, and instill psychological resilience to the success of the operation. They ensure that our soldiers remain mission-ready, which is an adverse event for terrain or adversity officials.”
