ASI begins recovery in damaged spire in Charminar

Hyderabad: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has begun working to restore a decoration that fell from the southeastern tribute piece in Charminar. ASI staff placed a scaffolding and wrapped the affected parts in blue plastic.

This plaster is not part of the original monument but was added during the Nizams period, breaking in heavy rains in the first week of April and falling near the Bhagyalakshmi temple below.

An ASI official told Deccan Chronicle. “We are waiting for good weather to accelerate work,” the official said.

He said ASI is using traditional materials including lime, sand, debris, myrtle cookies and gum to repair the plaster work without disturbing the original design of the monument.
