IPL 2025: Abhishek Nayar rejoins Kolkata Knight Riders support staff after being fired as Indian assistant coach

Abhishek Nayar, who was recently fired as India’s batting coach, joined the Kolkata Cavaliers Riders Support Staff for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. However, details of his character have not been mentioned.

“Abhishek Nayar rejoined our support staff. He is likely to be trained in Eden today,” the franchise statement said on Saturday (April 19). His appointment even came before BCCI officially announced its departure from the national team’s setup.

However, it is clear that BCCI chose not to continue with several support staff, including Nayar, who served as head coach Gautam Gambhir vice-chair for eight months. Along with him, field coach T emanates, and strength and conditioning trainer Soham Desai is also given a reduction.
Nayar, known for his behind-the-scenes influence and player-first approach, played a key role in the development of several KKR stars during his time with the team.
Young talents like Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy appeared under his guidance, earning praise for their skills and temperament.

As the league stage heats up and playoff ranges, trustworthy figures like Nayal can add much-needed peace and clarity to the locker room. KKR is currently ranked sixth in the scoring table with three wins and four losses in seven games.
