Hyderabad prepares for Grand Barcaki feast

Hyderabad: The Punjab community in Hyderabad will celebrate the Spring and Harvest Festival Baisakhi on Sunday and will be full of enthusiasm and culture. The celebrations have begun a week ago, with the cultural organisations and hotels of the two cities being prepared for the grand occasion.

The city reflects the vast presence of Punjab in the region, with 29 Gurudwaras, many of which plan to plan elaborate celebrations, including prayer, Langar (community meal) and cultural programs.

Preparations are in full swing at Gurudwara Sahib in Secunderabad. “Prayer will begin in the morning and continue until 11 am, followed by Langal of all devotees,” said Baldev Singh, chairman of the Gurudvara Council. “Free medical examinations and medication distribution will also be part of the service. For us, Hyderabad is like Punjab – we celebrate with the same dedication and scale.”

Gurudwara Sahib in Ameerpet will observe Saajna Diwas in honor of the formation of Khalsa Panth. A weeklong recitation of Gurbani Kirtans and a completion of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Shri Akhand path. The event will be written with the dedicated hymns written by renowned Ragi Jathas from all over the country and ended at 5.30 pm with Guru Ka Langar and Grand Nagar Keertan.

The festival’s cooking style has been added to hotels throughout the city, and the Punjabi Food Festival is being held. Hotel operator Akhilesh Kumar said: “We held a 10-day Punjabi Food Festival and received an overwhelming response. People in Hyderabad love Punjabi Cuisine, Baisakhi attracted them more.”

The famous Punjabi chef Raju Singh Sonwal emphasizes popular dishes such as Sarson Ka Saag, Rajma Chawal, Pindi Chole, Kadhi Pakodi and Sweet Pinni. He added: “The demand for Punjabi cuisine is rising. I have been mentoring new chefs and sharing recipes as my interest grows.”

Telangana Punjabi Sabha will celebrate the event greatly and will organize its annual Baisakhi Mela at HICC, with more than 4,000 attendees expected. The event will feature cultural programs, folk dances and special performances by Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan. “We are making this year’s celebrations even more special through a vibrant cultural phase,” said Sabha President Ravinder Singh Sarna. “In founded in 1963, Telangana Punjabi Sabha continues to uphold the rich traditions of Punjab and unite the Punjab diaspora in Telangana.”
