Karnataka conducts new surveys of scheduled castes within 60 days to collect empirical data for internal booking

The Karnataka government will conduct a comprehensive survey of the state’s scheduled caste population over the next two months to collect long-standing pending needs based on the retention within the Dalit left community.

The decision was made at the Cabinet meeting on the recommendations of the HN Nagamohan Das Committee, which submitted an interim report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday (27 March 2025). The survey was designed to overcome the nomenclature of Adi Karnataka, Adi Dravida, Adi Andhra and other planned castes (not yet declared Sub Caste), which was created before independence under Mysuru to overcome the Stice stigma stigma stickma, Dalit Avenitist, Dalit Avenitist, Dalit Avenitist, Dalit Avenitist, Dalit Avient operator operator operator operator.

About 101 castes are part of the state’s scheduled caste, which receives 17% of public employment and education reservations, and internal reservations will cut off the reservation between the communities around Dalit, Korma, Korra, Koracha and Lambani. Although the problem has been around for three decades, it gained momentum after the Supreme Court cleared its internal bookings based on empirical data in August 2024.

Asked if the investigation could be completed within 60 days, Minister of Social Welfare HC Mahadevappa said the work had begun, with the chief secretary convening a meeting of officials to draft on Thursday (27 March 2025). “The investigation will be conducted by government agencies, including the services of teachers. Preparations may take 15 days,” he said, adding that the commission’s two-month deadline will start on March 27.

Since the commission spent two months recommending the issue, when questioned whether to avoid it, Dr. Mahadevappa said similar issues in Haryana and other states have also taken to the court. According to him, the population of about 14 million SC in 2011 is now expected to be between 122,500 and 13,000.
