Indian man Bharat Jain is known as the richest beggar in the world with a net worth of Rs 75 crore. His story illustrates the begging industry in India, where some choose to beg for other jobs because it provides better income.

Jain is reportedly usually begging near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Azad Maidan in Mumbai. He was born in a poor family, unable to receive education, and often faced hunger. To survive, he began begging, and over the years, he had completely changed his family’s lives. Today, he earns between Rs 2,000 and 2,500 a day and works 10 to 12 hours. This brings monthly income up to Rs 60,000 to Rs 75,000.

Jain invested wisely in his income. He owns two Mumbai apartments worth Rs 14 crore in Mumbai, and he lives with his wife, two sons, father and brother. He also owns two stores in Thana, which brings him a monthly rental income of Rs 30,000. His son studied in a prestigious school and now helps run a family stationery store.

Despite his wealth, Jain continued to beg. He liked it and regarded it as his profession. In an interview with the Economic Times, he said: “I am not greedy. I am generous.” He donated money to temples and charities, proving that for him, begging involves not only survival, but also a profession.

It is reported that there are more than 400,000 beggars in India. West Bengal has the highest number (81,000), followed by Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
