The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) announced on Wednesday (March 26, 2025) that the vertically launched short-range ground-oriented air missile (VLSRSAM) under development has successfully demonstrated its nearly limited low-altitude capabilities during the fire test. The test was conducted with the Indian Navy’s Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, coastal Odisha, at about 12pm, from a land-based vertical launcher.

During the testing period, the missiles were engaged on high-speed aviation targets at very close range and at low altitudes. It performs the high turn rates required to participate in such goals, completely destroying the goal, thus establishing its agility, reliability and accuracy. All weapon system elements are deployed in combat configurations – including missiles equipped with local RF Seekers, multi-function radars and weapons control systems, and meet expectations. Flight data captured by various range instruments developed by ITR Chandipur verifies the overall performance of the system.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh described the missile as an excellent power multiplier for the Indian Navy.
