Three terrorists were killed in a meeting in the Trar region of Awantipora, south of South Kashmir on Thursday. This was the second contact in Kashmir in three days, with six terrorists and all locals killed. These two encounters reduced the number of active local terrorists in Kashmir by the lowest in 35 years.

Officials claim that the number of local terrorists active in Kashmir has been reduced to unit numbers, while foreign terrorists active in the valley are about 40 years old.

J&K police have not identified the terrorists who died in the encounter, but officials said they have been identified as all residents of Pulwama district, Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani and Yawar Ahmad Bhat. Sheikh joined the terrorist ranks in 2022, while Wani and Bhat joined in 2024.
Police said the encounter began Thursday morning in the village of Nad village of Tral in Avatipola, where police and armed forces began cordons and search operations in the area. The terrorist movement was observed through aerial surveillance through drones, and later shared terrorists on various social media platforms. One of the terrorists also made a brief video call to his family and was killed at the site of the encounter.

“In the TRAL encounter, three terrorists were neutralized. The determination and affiliation were being determined. Ongoing search operations.”
