Sir Keir Starmer said a close ties with the EU would benefit the UK’s work, bills and borders, and he could then announce an agreement with the group.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said she was “concerned” about what the PM might negotiate.

Ms. Badenoch had promised that she would reach an agreement with the EU if the EU violated the Brexit red line. He said: “Labor should use this review of our EU trade agreement to ensure a new victory for the UK, such as using e-gates on the mainland to reach an EU-wide agreement against the British.

“Instead, it sounds like we are giving away our phishing quota, becoming the rules entrepreneur in Brussels again, and moving freely in the backdoor. It’s not a reset, it’s a surrender.”
