Keir Starmer visits Ukraine to call for a 30-day ceasefire in the war

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will travel to Ukraine with world leaders on Saturday to put pressure on Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire in the war.
Sir Keir is visiting French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Friedrich Merz, who have begun their first trip to Ukraine since becoming German Chancellor this week.
This is Sir Kyle’s second visit to the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Sir Kyle and other leaders are using the visit to urge Russia to “agree to a full 30-day ceasefire,” an initial proposal made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The decision by the leaders to travel to Kiev together was a symbolic response to more than 20 leaders who joined Moscow in Friday to commemorate Russia’s Victory Day.
The leaders also vowed to “pressure to stab the Russian war machine.”
During the visit, four leaders will join President Vorodimir Zelensky in a virtual meeting of the “Voluntary Alliance” – about 30 mainly European countries if a peace agreement is agreed to be reached with Russia, seeking to resolve Ukraine’s security.
They will also pay tribute to Ukrainian soldiers, who will all be killed in operation since the full-scale invasion of Russia three years ago.
In a statement issued before their arrival, the leaders said: “Our leaders from France, Germany, Poland and Britain will protest with Ukraine against Russia’s barbaric and illegal full-scale invasion.
“We reaffirm President Trump’s support for the call for a peace agreement and call on Russia to stop obstructing efforts to ensure lasting peace.
“Along with the United States, we call on Russia to agree to a complete and unconditional 30-day ceasefire to create space for talks on just and lasting peace.
“We are ready to support peace negotiations as soon as possible, discuss the technical implementation of the ceasefire and prepare for a comprehensive peace agreement.
“We are very clear that the bleeding must end, Russia must stop the illegal invasion, and Ukraine must be able to prosper within its internationally recognized borders as a safe, secure and sovereign nation.
“We will continue to increase our support for Ukraine. We will increase pressure on the Russian war machine before Russia agrees to a lasting ceasefire.”
Russia announced that it would commemorate the victory day of World War II World War II with a unilateral three-day ceasefire, and Ukraine was denied a “drama performance.”
Kiev described the truce as a farce, accusing Russia of launching thousands of attacks since midnight Wednesday. Russia said it had observed a ceasefire and accused Ukraine of hundreds of illegal acts.
German Chancellor Merz said he hopes to reach an immediate ceasefire this weekend.
Russia’s three-day truce will end on Saturday night, but Meers said it could be extended to 30 days, “now the ball is entirely on the field in Moscow.”
Trump reiterated his call for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire after a call with Zelensky.
Trump issued a “ceasefire” on the “Society of Truth”. If the ceasefire is not respected, the United States and its partners will impose further sanctions.”
