Kiit Hostel sees second Nepali student die in months when Prakriti Lamsal case shakes India

Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Chief Suresh Dev Datta Singh said authorities had been warned of alleged suicide and promptly launched an investigation.
“Today, the information we received said that a girl from Nepal died at Kit University due to suicide,” he said. “We got there and investigated the matter. A detailed investigation will be conducted… The scientific team got there and all the details were collected. Her family has been informed. The body has been sent to AIIMS for autopsy.”
The police commissioner also confirmed that the Nepal embassy has been informed of the tragic incident.
The Odisha government expressed condolences and ensured a thorough investigation into the situation surrounding the death of students.

“Around 8.10 pm this afternoon, the first year of B Tech, Computer Science, Computer Science, Computer Science was received at the local police department. “The girl's parents were immediately informed of the incident by university authorities. At this hour of death, the state government extended support to the families of the deceased and expressed condolences to them.”
The statement further added that senior officials, including police and tax zoning commissioners, were dispatched to the university to investigate the incident and ensure necessary actions. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence from the site.
The incident is evident as the death of another Nepali student at the same university on February 16 this year. Previous incidents led to protests among Nepalese students who were suspected of harassing a classmate and were later arrested.

“We request an investigation into the matter as soon as possible. We will also investigate the matter in detail, what happened and her death… We hope the defendant should be arrested and punished.”
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also has a call for a thorough investigation, highlighting the agency’s call for duplication of such incidents.
“The incident was repeated. There was also a suicide case in the same hotel and building… The ABVP requested a thorough investigation into the matter.”
