The Buddha statue commemorates three major events in Siddharthagata’s life. These include his birth in Lumbini, his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree of Bodhi, and his death of Mahaparinirvana or Kushinagar. It is believed that all these important moments take place on the same day, which makes the full moon extremely sacred for Buddhist followers.
Siddhartha was born in 563 BC in 563 BC and was established in the present-day Nepal royal family. He gave up his luxurious life in search of the truth about human suffering. After years of intense meditation, he gained enlightenment and became a Buddha, which means awakened people.
Meaning and celebrations
Buddha is a day of spiritual reflection, sympathy and peace. Devotees visit Buddhist shrines, offering prayer, light candles and incense, and poetry from the divine text. The temple was decorated and some followers observed fasting or practicing charity. The Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya and other pilgrimage sites witnessed the large gatherings.
This day reminds people of the core doctrines of the Buddha, such as nonviolence, mindfulness and intermediate ways to overcome suffering.
