Kochi will hold a global marine seminar in November

The Central Marine Fisheries Institute (CMFRI) will host the 4th International Marine Ecosystem Symposium: Challenges and Opportunities (MECOS-4) in Gaoqi from November 4 to 6.

The event was organized jointly by the Marine Biology Association of India (MBAI) and CMFRI. The CMFRI press release said the workshop will focus on a range of emerging threats to marine ecosystems, including a range of emerging threats to sea temperatures and extreme weather events.

The three-day event will bring together a community of marine scientists, researchers, policy makers and industry experts around the world to address the growing challenges facing marine fisheries and aquaculture. “The conference will develop a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable marine fisheries and innovative aquaculture methods to meet growing seafood demand and protect the livelihoods of coastal communities,” said Grinson George, director and president of CMFRI.

MECOS-4 will discuss various topics in ecosystem and biodiversity conservation, sustainable fisheries and horse farming, climate and environmental resilience, and products, value chains and livelihoods. At the conference, special attention will be paid to the research on marine mammals and seabirds.

The conference will provide emerging ocean researchers and students from India with a large platform to present their work, thus providing them with vital visibility and engagement opportunities. Researchers under the age of 35 have the opportunity to win five young marine biologist awards to introduce their research. Mecos-4 also set up five commemorative awards to commemorate the celebrity in marine fisheries research: S. Jones, M. Devaraj, NR Menon, R. Reghuprasad and Psbr James.
