Preparations for the 25th Kodava Family Hockey Festival are in full swing, and the countdown for the annual event has begun. At least 400 teams plan to participate this year.
The tournament is scheduled to be held on three grounds from March 28 to April 27, including competitions at the Marshal of the Cariappa Academy and the Police Academy. According to organizers, this year’s event was hosted by the Muddanda family, which has a long tradition of service and excellence in various fields.
Details of the event were shared recently by officials from the Kodawa Hockey Academy and Mudenda Hockey Festival Committee with the media on Mysuru. Pandanda K. Bopanna, dean of Kodawa Hockey Academy, said 370 teams participated in the 2024 Family Hockey Festival. This year, the number is expected to be among 400 teams.

The festival brings together different Kodawa clans and families through hockey, and when the game reaches the Guinness World Records, the family will also see families organizing last year’s championships.
The festival will be shaped in the form of a “mini Olympics,” said Ravi Pemmaiah, secretary of the Kodawa Hockey Academy. The referee seminar will be held from March 19 to 20 at Cauvery College in Virajpet.

As this year marks the silver jubilee of Family Hockey Festival, a series of events will also be held during the inauguration and festivals. According to organizers, the quiz contest is a whirlwind and rifle shooting is part of this year’s festival.
A festival torch similar to the Olympic torch will be brought to traditional ancestral houses, or AinmaneIn various families hosting the competition.
Rashin Subbaiah, chairman of the Organization Committee, said that on March 28, the torch will be brought from General Thimayya Circle to Cariappa College Marshal Km Cariappa College Ground.
As part of the Jubilee Celebration, there will also be a Women’s Championship, with 30 teams expected to compete.
Kodawa Family Hockey Festival is an initiative of retired bank official Pandanda Kuttappa. It is an attempt to bring together various Kodawa families and clans through hockey, not a sport but a tradition among community members.
