Police arrested a person in the fire at a hotel in Kolkata on Friday (May 2, 2025), claiming 14 lives, a senior official said.
He said the defendant's interior decorator Khurshid Alam was picked up from his park circus home and reduced the total arrests in the case to three.
“When doing the interior decoration work, the person exaggerated the person. Some flammable articles were used, which helped the fire spread.”
Police suspect construction work on the first floor of the hotel may have exacerbated the fire.
Police arrested the owner and manager of Rituraj Hotel on May 1 (May 1) and engulfed the six-story property of Mechhua Falpatti in Burrabazar in the city during a devastating fire.
Firefighters recovered 13 burnt bodies from debris on Wednesday (April 30). Later, another victim succumbed to injuries, resulting in 14 deaths.
