A 17-year-old girl from Kollam area was treated for hepatitis C and her sister died of the same illness on Sunday a few days after she died of the same disease. The deceased was identified as Neethu, Thrikkovilvattom Panchayat, Kollam district, and is being treated at the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Her sister, Meenakshi, 19, died Friday. Kollam’s health department officials seriously considered the death of their siblings. Neethu was initially taken to the ESI hospital in Kollam district but was later transferred to Thiruvananthapuram. The younger brother of the two girls, Ambadi, also tested positive for hepatitis B, but recovered thereafter.
