KSEB’s electric vehicle charging stations have lower prices for daytime charging

The electric vehicle (EV) charging station operated by the Kerala Electric Power Council (KSEB) has entered into force.

Date (TOD) arrangements are specially designed to facilitate charging of electric motors during the day (solar hours) when solar energy is available.

The general energy charge approved by the Kerala Electric Power Regulatory Commission is Rs 7.15 per unit, but offers a 30% discount during non-polar hours (4 pm to 9 am) of solar hours (9 am to 4 pm), which is 30% higher.

Under this, the energy charge for the sun hour is €5 and the non-polar hour is €9.30. Customers are also required to pay tariffs, service fees and 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST).

For AC-Type chargers, the price for solar hours is Rs 8.50 per unit plus 18% GST. (₹8.50 includes energy charges, taxes and service charges). In non-polar hours, the rate is Rs 14.23 plus 18% GST.

For DC type, charger, the rate for solar hour is Rs 16.5 rupees plus 18% GST. For non-polar hours, the rate is Rs 23.23 plus 18% GST.

The rate was effective at 9 a.m. (May 16), according to the Commission’s electricity bill order of December 5, 2024 and the Union Electricity Department’s instructions.

The new price is designed to promote green mobility by encouraging electric vehicle charging within solar hours, as non-renewable energy is available at night.
