Sunita Williams’ sister son Falguni Pandya shares the excitement of the family after an unexpected long-term mission. She confirmed Williams would visit India soon.

After nine months of living at the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore return to Earth. Their return trip was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The SpaceX Dragon Free Capsule with Astronauts successfully splashed out on the Florida coast near Tallahassee at 5:57 pm on March 18 (3:27 AM on March 19, March 19).

After her safe return, Williams’ family in India expressed their joy and relief. Williams’ sister son Falguni Pandya shared in his speech on NDTV that the family was excited about their return to school after a long mission in space. She confirmed Williams would visit India soon.

While the exact schedule for Williams’ visit to India has not been completed yet, her sister son Falguni Pandya confirmed that plans are underway. “We don’t have an exact date, but she will definitely come to India soon. I hope this year,” she said.

Pandya describes watching SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft splash on the Florida coast, viewing Williams as “surreal.” She also mentioned that the family is planning a vacation together to celebrate Williams’ return.

During space, Sunita Williams stayed in touch with her roots.

Pandya revealed that she sent Kaju Katli in space on September 19 to Williams’ birthday. She also shared that Williams had asked her to find photos of Pandya visiting earlier this year on Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Pandya recalls that Sunita Williams, the first astronaut to eat Samosas on the space station, jokingly suggesting that it would be a “Samosas party” to celebrate her homecoming.

PM Modi invites Sunita Williams to India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Sunita Williams to visit India. In a letter shared on social media by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Prime Minister Modi expressed admiration for Williams’ achievements. Prime Minister Modi mentioned that he had asked about her happiness at a meeting with Donald Trump and former U.S. President Joe Biden.

PM Modi said in the letter: “After returning, we look forward to seeing you in India. India is delighted to receive one of its most outstanding daughters.”

Meanwhile, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore left ISS at 10:35 a.m. on March 16, and they returned to Earth for 17 hours. Their initial mission plan in June 2024 was a short-term test flight of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, but a failure in the propulsion system expanded their accommodation in space. Eventually, NASA reassigned them to SpaceX Crew-9 Mission, which saw their safe return.
